Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter, as cat feces may contain Toxoplasma gondii—a parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis. Pregnant or nursing women, as well as children and anyone with a weakened immune system, should avoid handling used cat litter. Always handle litter in a ventilated area to avoid inhalation. Keep contents and packaging out of reach of children and pets. Seek medical help in case of accidental ingestion.
- Generally, about 3 inches of non-clumping clay litter, or 1 – 2 inches of scoopable litter should get the job done. Some say less, some say more. Only you and your cat will know the correct amount.
- Remove solid, waste at least once per day and conventional, non-clumping and scoopable litters alike. Replace the entire contents of non-clumping clay weekly. And remember to replace the clumps you removed with fresh to keep the level up.
- Litter lasts about 30 days under normal circumstances. If you have more cats, you’ll probably want to replace your litter more frequently to better control odors. Your cat’s reaction to the litter box is also a good indicator that it’s time, so if Precious isn’t going in it’s time for the litter to go out.
- Wash the litter box with soap and warm water and rinse well every time you change litter completely. Box liners are great for helping make litter box maintenance a bit more carefree.
Additional Instructions
- Only dispose of used cat litter in trash. Do not flush, bury or dispose of it outdoors, in gutters or storm drains to avoid environmental contamination.
- Not for internal use. Not meant for use as compost or as a traction aid.
- Store in a cool, dry place. Product filled by weight; some settling may occur.
Your cat may not like new litter, so go slow. Mix the new litter in with the old in a ratio of about 1/3 new to 2/3 old. Increase the new litter gradually until you have a total switch-over.
